Transportation Survey Technician

Role description:

In this position, you will have the opportunity to utilize your advanced survey skills and experience working in a collaborative team environment supporting senior level survey and engineering staff. Remote work opportunity for well qualified candidate.

Role accountabilities:

  • Performs survey and design related calculations at the direction of Professional Land Surveyor and make sure that all applicable work is in accordance with client related standards, specifications, and documentation
  • Assist other survey staff and find solutions to problems
  • Interprets engineering related documents and digital files
  • Evaluate DOT surveys for conformance to standard of practice.
  • Review DOT OpenRoads surveys.
  • Ability to research established survey evidence, maps, deeds, and other records as needed to complete a survey.
  • Document and complete Arcadis QA/QC procedures on each project.
  • Ability to coordinate with engineers as needed.
  • Establish and build relationships with clients.
  • Develop/Mentor junior staff as needed.
  • Support DOT regions with OpenRoads challenges
  • Lead training with the Region Surveyors across the state
  • Performs other appropriate related surveying duties

Qualifications & Experience:

Required qualifications:

  • 10 or more years’ relevant experience in surveying, consisting of at least 5 years of applicable CAD-related experience, at least 1 year of OpenRoads experience and at least 2 years of work that required familiarity with DOT projects.
  • Valid driver’s license

Key attributes:

  • Familiarity with DOT survey procedures and workflows
  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles and applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned work and meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Works well as a team player for achieving the goals of the department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in gaining additional experience with:
    • DOT required software such as Microstation, OpenRoads Designer and InRoads.
    • Processing of field gathered hydrographic surveys.
    • Processing of mobile and terrestrial lidar data and modeling.
    • Collection and reduction GPS networks
    • Collection and reduction of UAV data

The salary range for this position is $70800 – $106200.
