Central Purchasing and Logistics (CP&L) is a financial entity that works interdependently to support IU Dining with their everyday important mission to deliver quality service to our students and faculty.
CP&L tasks are important to aid in supplying the IU Dining locations with food and products through our receiving, redistributing, and delivery function. In addition, our team is responsible for oversight to ensure that all funds and products are properly accounted for in these financial processes for Residential Programs and Services and other departments.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Operates various types of vehicles (primarily box-truck, occasionally van) to deliver (food, related product, equipment/supplies) to job site.
- Manually loads and unloads vehicle. Uses rollers, hand trucks, lift-gates, dock plates, load locks, and other equipment to lift and move often large or heavy items.
- Inspects vehicle for proper operating condition. Checks fluid levels, tire pressures, and lights. Maintains vehicle records and logs.
General Responsibilities
- Operates various types of trucks (box) to deliver materials (supplies, equipment, tools, ordered parts, recycled materials, etc.) to job site.
- May use procurement card, purchase orders and verbal descriptions to locate and obtain required materials, parts, tools, equipment, etc. Manually loads and unloads vehicle. Uses rollers, block and tackle, hand trucks, hydraulic lifts, Johnson bars and other equipment to lift and move large or heavy items. Tows trailer to deliver auxiliary equipment to job site.
- Operates truck with mounted snow blade and sand spreader to clear streets, drives, and parking lots. Inspects vehicle for proper operating condition. Checks fluid levels, tire pressures, and lights. Maintains vehicle records and logs.
- Performs grounds maintenance tasks as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) and 1 year of relevant experience OR
- General knowledge at the high school level 2 years of relevant work experience, including 1 year of driving experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire
SKILLS
Required
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
- Knowledge of various truck types and their use and maintenance
- Ability to operate, with training, forklift and picker-truck equipment
- Ability to know your location in relation to the environment or to know where other objects are in relation to you and the vehicle
- Ability to handle basic handle basic paperwork
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires stationary positioning for long periods of time. It also requires a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Indiana and the ability to be insured by Indiana University. This role requires the ability to frequently lift items weighing 30 – 75 pounds, as well as carrying, walking, and placing items. This role requires the ability to work indoors and outdoors, in both hot and cold temperatures. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.
