PAY RANGE: $95,900 – $127,800 (Min – Mid)
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Job may require work outside normally scheduled hours.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager Transmission and Substation (T&S) Field Construction and working collaboratively with the T&S Construction Project Managers, the candidate will direct field construction on a variety of transmission and substation projects in a safe, timely, cost-effective manner while being a good environmental steward. The candidate will ensure that appropriate interaction with other work groups such as engineering, vegetation management, procurement, real estate, transmission/distribution operations, and others as required to complete the projects. The type of projects may include: building new and rebuilding existing transmission lines, building new and modifying existing substations, building new or rebuilding distribution lines that are underbuilt on the transmission lines, installing electrical system protection/control upgrades, and managing field communication modifications. The candidate will have responsibility for executing field work processes required for the projects. The candidate could be assigned responsibility for storm restoration as needed on transmission, substations, and/or distribution systems.
Education and Experience:
This position requires proven experience, approximately five years or more, in the design, construction and/or maintenance of transmission, substation, distribution, electrical system protection/controls, or field communications systems. Supervisory experience in the areas of transmission, substation, and/or distribution construction is preferred along with prior experience applying field construction management practices. It is also desired that the selected candidate possess the preferred education and experience as noted below:
• A degree in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering is preferred.
• Transmission and/or substation engineering, construction, or maintenance experience at 69kV and above is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience supervising construction or field crews is preferred.
• Experience in electrical system protection and control engineering, construction, or maintenance is preferred.
• Knowledge of project management concepts and is preferred.
The appropriate combination of education and related experience will be considered.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of field construction management practices, industry construction practices, and an understanding of the power delivery system. Candidate must have good decision making, communication and organizational skills. Being able to multi-task and oversee multiple jobs at different locations is required. A strong working knowledge of system operations procedures, company safety requirements, and substation/transmission/distribution construction standards is required.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
Office and field working conditions. Requires frequent visits to the field in all types of weather conditions. Some overnight travel required. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance. May be expected to oversee scheduled work after hours.
