Position Purpose
Our part time biology tutor role plays an essential role in guiding and helping students through the subject of biology in conjunction with our faculty. What you do matters here!
The learning support services include one-on-one and group tutoring with students in a non-directive, facilitative approach; assisting with computer-based tutorials or homework; assistance with SSC current LMS system; provide other ways to directly support student success.
Location of Work: Stark State College Main Campus, North Canton and Stark State Akron, Akron Campus and some online hours available.Typical Hours of Work: (up to 29 hours worked)Typical in person shifts are scheduled:
Mon through Thursday 10:00am – 5:00pm
Typical online shifts are scheduled (as available):
Fri & Sat 10:00am – 2:00pm and Sun – Thu 4:00pm – 10:00pm

Typical Responsibilities Include:
- Engage students and systematically and consistently provide learning support services to students in a positive and efficient method.
- Provide assistance to students by helping with lecture or lab material in biology courses, as well as help with study methods, or technology needed to complete course related material.
- Greet students and visitors. Assist with answering general questions about the college, providing assistance and guidance to college services
- Tutoring will take place primarily in person at either the main campus or at our Akron location. Online tutoring may be available based on hourly needs.
To be Considered You’ll Need:
- A bachelor’s degree in biology or closely related field such as a medical degree, chiropractor, exercise physiology, or physical therapy is required with course(s) in anatomy or physiology is preferred.
- Microsoft Office Application skills, excellent communication, and comfort with technology usage is preferred.

STATE TEACHERS RETIREMENT SYSTEM (S.T.R.S.)
State Teachers Retirement System
The (STRS), was established to provide a secure retirement for Ohio’s public educators. STRS is available to all faculty members. The College contributes 14% of the employees’ wages for the retirement benefit and the employee contributes 14% of their wages toward the retirement benefit.
INSTRUCTIONAL FEES
All instructional and general fees for credit, audit, or non-credit courses offered at Stark State College will be paid by the College from income of the College budgeted for employee benefits up to an amount per academic semester not to exceed such fees for six credit hours per semester.
A part-time employee may enroll in any section or course on a spaceavailable basis. To qualify for this benefit, employees:
- Shall take the course(s) during a semester in which they are currently working.
- Shall have instructed a minimum of 8 credit hours or 13 CEU’s at Stark State College or if paid hourly, worked a minimum of 320 hours prior to receiving this benefit.
- Must obtain the approval of their supervisor. Employees paid on an hourly basis shall refer to the minimum hours worked requirement to qualify for the benefit. The employee’s primary positon during the semester the benefit is used determines the employee’s eligibility.
Eligible part-time employees desiring this benefit must complete an Instructional Fee Waiver form available on mystarkstate and must submit it to the employee’s supervisor for approval.
Instructional fees are available for IRS dependents of part-time employees. All instructional and general fees for credit, audit, or non-credit courses offered at Stark State College will be paid by the College from income of the College budgeted for employee benefits for dependents of part-time employees for six semester hours per academic year per employee.
Dependents of part-time employees may enroll in any section or course on a space-available basis. The student will be required to pay the processing fee and all other incidental fees associated with the course enrolled in each semester.
Dependents of employees classified as student workers, substitute workers, or seasonal workers will not be eligible to participate in this program. Dependents of part-time employees who are eligible for tuition waivers such as College Credit Plus, various scholarships and grants, and other such nonloan programs must use those funds prior to use of the Instructional Fee Waiver benefit.
