University Events has openings for the front desk assistant position for the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Summer is not included in this position although there are opportunities for summer employment with University Events.
Job Description
Requirements: Work-study eligibility as part of financial aid award.
Rate of Pay: $15.19 per hour
Timeframe: Ideal start date the week of August 21 but open to discussing other arrangements, carrying on through 2023-2024 Academic Year
Training will be provided.
Events Front Desk Primary responsibilities include:
- Staffing the front desk of the University Events Office
- Greeting guests to the department
- Answering the office’s phone and assisting clients as necessary
- Scheduling campus meeting and event space using our scheduling program and current processes
- Assisting with the development of rental agreements and other event paperwork
- Coordinating with set-up and AV staff for event request and set up needs
- Checking email regularly
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Looking for students who have previous experience working with events (i.e. have worked in a hotel, restaurant or event center before), students that are interested in Audio/Visual work or that have an interest in pursuing event management as a career.
- Knowledge of and comfort setting up audio-visual is highly preferred. Onsite technical training will be given.
- Strong customer service skills are necessary as these positions will be required to work closely with a variety of different groups on campus (both internal and external groups).
- A self-motivated, team-minded individual is essential
- This position will require the ability to work some nights and/or weekends
- Much of what we do for the campus is set up audio-visual menu for meetings or events. Having base knowledge of these skills and/or the ability to pick up on them quickly is crucial for a student staffer to be successful in our department.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
