Are you passionate about capturing extraordinary moments and preserving memories that last a lifetime? University Marketing and Communications is currently seeking a talented and dedicated university photographer to join its team. As the university photographer, you will have the incredible opportunity to document the vibrant and diverse experiences of our students, faculty and staff. You will play a role in visually capturing the essence of campus, academic achievements and unforgettable events.
Job responsibilities: Responsible for working closely with key stakeholders (including senior leadership, faculty, staff, students and alumni) to photograph and edit high-quality photos consistent with the South Dakota State University brand and institutional goals. Responsible for the creation, management and delivery of innovative marketing photography from concept to final production, including photos of campus and community life, faculty/student interaction, candid shots, campus leadership and faculty/staff headshots. Will manage the university’s collection of photo assets and serve as the administrator of the university’s digital asset management system. Still photography opportunities will include creative marketing photography, portraiture, landscapes, event coverage and photo essays.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Strong working knowledge of and experience in:
- Use of digital SLR cameras, modern lenses and lighting technology.
- Digital photo/video editing software.
- Managing extensive photo databases, using keywords and metadata to effectively organize hundreds of thousands of photo assets.
- Working outside a permanent studio and effectively coordinating, setting up and operating equipment including cameras, lighting, etc.
- All expert-level aspects of production: shooting, lighting, composition and editing. Proficiency in Adobe Suite, MS Office Suite.
Skill and ability to:
- Build effective relationships.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Organize groups of people to achieve the best photography results.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, photography, film/videography, visual arts or new media production.
- Three to five years demonstrated experience in still photography to include studio, location, action and portrait.
- Knowledge in Lightroom, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Squeeze and Quicktime are a plus.
Required license: Valid driver’s license
