General Description of Position:
Upward Bound at Ivy Tech Community College seeks an intern with a passion for education, strong activity/event planning skills, and a desire to mentor and support
under-recognized students. Intern will be responsible for assisting with the creation of fun, interactive, and educational experiences for Upward Bound students (grades 9-12) during our Summer Academy. Intern will also be responsible for the day to day functions of the program centering instructors and the assistance they’ll need in the classroom. Summer Academy takes place 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Intern will primarily work daytime hours with the possibility of rare night/weekend hours for field trips or special events.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist Upward Bound staff and Director in executing a variety of activities throughout the summer, including icebreakers, team building activities, workshops, and field trips.
- Prepare for workshops and activities by organizing supplies, creating signage, creating decorations, and creating detailed event agendas/instructions.
- Help supervise students in/between classes, during lunch, during workshops, and on field trips.
- Encourage positive student interactions and remind students of the rules and expectations for participating in Upward Bound.
- Do basic daily recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance, grading, tutoring, tracking merits/demerits, and inputting relevant data into Student Access online.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field. (e.g. Education, Mathematics, English, Hospitality Management, Event Planning, Public Relations, etc.)
- Flexibility in schedule and environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work respectfully with under-recognized high school students
- Self-motivated, organizational skills, detail-oriented, multi-task and meet deadlines

This position is a grant funded position. There is no guarantee of continued employment once the grant funding has ended.
Work Hours:
up to 20 hrs per week for 7 weeks | May 15-19| June 12-July 21
Hiring Range:
$15.00 per hour.
