The City of Fort Lauderdale’s Development Services Department/Zoning and Landscape Division seeks an Urban Landscape Designer.

This is responsible advanced professional and supervisory work of considerable difficulty in all aspects of urban landscape design and development. An employee in this class is responsible for reviewing development plans for compliance with the landscape ordinance and for the inspection of new construction and renovation projects to assure conformance with the landscape codes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Delegates and reviews work assignments; Meets with technical and design experts, advisors and consultants regarding urban landscape design and landscape architecture planning issues Performs project review for major development proposals; discusses development proposals with developers to explain and clarify city requirements and help guide developers through the development review process
- Investigates complaints regarding the City of Fort Lauderdale Landscaping Code and other applicable ordinances; coordinates the prosecution of violators, when necessary
- May supervise a team of inspectors to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule; delegates and reviews work assignments; applies codes and policy provisions of the City
- Coordinates urban landscape design programs; develops policy statements and development strategies for implementation in urban landscape
- Coordinates with other departments regarding projects involving the installation of appropriate urban landscape species
- Represents the City before federal, state and county agencies on issues relating to urban landscape design and management
- Prepares staff reports, records, and documents in matters relating to the City of Fort Lauderdale landscape ordinance
- Electronically prepares reports and maintains inspection records of work performed and properly enters inspection data, including documents and images using provided hardware and software systems and equipment
- Recommends and drafts City of Fort Lauderdale code amendments
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Bachelor’s Degree in urban landscape design, urban forestry, landscape architecture, landscape construction, horticulture supervision and management, or closely related field and
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in landscape design and construction. Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Possess or be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record, within 30 days of hire.

- Florida Water Star Accredited Landscape Professional

Special Requirements:
Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work in some capacity after the declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.
