Division Profile
The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm’s books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley’s various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley’s various businesses and its senior management team.
Department Profile
GCC (Global Corporate Controllers) is responsible for the financial and regulatory reporting of the consolidated Firm and its legal entities, accounting, corporate reporting and regulatory policy, controllership of the Firm’s infrastructure areas, and oversight of the Finance Risk & Assurance function.
Responsibilities Include
- Ensure accuracy of GAAP reporting by reviewing monthly results, recording entity-level adjustments, and researching / documenting variance drivers
- Provide regulators with routine and ad-hoc reports on Banks’ performance.
- Produce monthly and quarterly GAAP reports, and annual financial statement disclosures; help implement new accounting policies.
- Draft quarterly MD&A and footnote disclosures for U.S. Bank subsidiaries by reviewing comparable info (MS 10-Q / K and peer filings), and by interviewing subject matter experts within the firm.
- Compile footnote data based on inputs from central team, and review support prepared by other team members.
- Review test results related to internal controls and prepare support binders for potential review by internal and external auditors, external regulators, and management.
- Support presentation of the above to senior leadership (e.g. Banks, BoD Audit Committee, Banks, CFO).
- Prepare proforma financials including merged affiliates / subsidiaries, with appropriate eliminations.
- Familiar with general ledger processes and month-end close as some assistance will be required in these areas.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- CPA with a minimum of 5+ years of prior experience in external reporting and / or audited financials, preferably within a publicly listed bank / lender.
- Alternatively, former auditor with publicly listed bank clients.
- Capable of researching SEC / AICPA disclosure requirements.
- Self-starter and able to perform effectively with minimal supervision.
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $190,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
