Distinguished Solution Architect:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Cross-Cutting Solution Architect for Platform Operations to work within our dynamic organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing cross-functional technical leadership, creating innovative platform solutions, and ensuring seamless integration of new technologies across our diverse set of platforms and services.
The ideal candidate for this role is a successful senior technical individual contributor leader within large enterprises practicing platform engineering and site reliability engineering, comfortable collaborating with executives, large engineering teams, and individual engineers. Successful candidate will have helped organizations navigate key industry transformations around DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and migration to Service-based, Cloud-native, and Reactive Architectures. Candidate can clarify deeply the value proposition of each as well as implementation details: the intersection of people, process, and technology required to achieve such transformations. The candidate will have a software development background and will have led product development and operational responsibilities for multi-tenant SaaS applications or managed services (a “you build it, you run it” culture).

Responsibilities
Oversee domain modeling for PSDO in the context of the broader GTP and contract definitions to ensure loose-coupling and separation of concerns between subdomains. Work with product and program management, engineers, and leaders to clarify and communicate implementation and technical vision. Facilitate collaboration across platform teams for delivery on the vision.
Participate in architecture definition and provide design oversight for multiple applications within a domain and validate the technical priorities for the product/solution architecture. Define the architectural blueprint for classes of PSDO applications. Define the architecture to build cross-system interactions ensuring reusability, consistency, and reliability. Identify, evaluate, and recommend solutions and enhancement to frameworks and underlying technologies to achieve desired performance and scalability. Prepare technical papers broadly outlining the approaches to be taken in building multiple systems. Define the tech stack for various products, platforms and solutions highlighting the pros and cons of each and providing recommendations for future solutions. Work with teams to incorporate Reliability, Threat, and Cost modeling into our design and governance processes.

Responsibilities
Guide the team on coding patterns, languages and frameworks in line with evolving trends in the industry (Ex: reactive vs. imperative etc.) and to acheive scalability and security requirements(Applicable to IC & PL). Drive Implementation of telemetry features by determining data/metrics requirement within the domain (Applicable to IC & PL). Support ad-hoc reviews of software code to ensure baseline mitigations for known risks. (Applicable only to IC). Participate in POC and API/Contract development activities. Perform code and test reviews for entire product/system and ensure the product is meeting business requirements, non-functional requirements, low-maintainability, high-availability and high-scalability needs (Applicable only to IC). Oversee the codes executed by team in line with specified technical/business requirements (Applicable only to IC). Mentor and collaborate with teams for automation of repetitive and routine tasks in CI/CD pipelines or any other process across the domain (including operational toil elimination). Mentor and collaborate with teams to drive an acceptance-test-driven methodology and culture.

Responsibilities
To work across teams within PSDO and across GTP and vendors to conduct comprehensive analysis and map solutions to clear use cases and requirements aligned to specific scenarios. Mentor others on frameworks used for such analysis. Contribute to design of reusable frameworks / processes to capture business/customer requirements. Provide guidelines/direction/oversight for translation of requirements into backlogs and participate as needed in productive backlog grooming and estimation activities.
Technical Domain Design:

To assess and communicate the business costs, benefits, risks and issues for alternative architectural strategies based on experience in multiple disciplines and domains, knowledge of the specific business supported and existing technology. Direct the discussion of issues and considerations for adopting an enterprise architecture. Develop models and plans to drive forward the strategy and promote business performance improvement opportunities. Share experiences with creating or enhancing architectural models for one or more domains. Discuss leading frameworks or providers of methods and tools for developing an enterprise architecture. Consult on architectural integration and implementation issues, and their business implications.
Deployment Architecture and Execution:
Requires knowledge of:
Database structure principles; Data modelling, segmentation techniques; Prototyping process and models; Database design and archival; Migration techniques; Data analysis tools and processes; Telemetry; Container and Container Orchestration Platforms; Cloud Monitoring Solutions; DevOps – CI CD Pipeline Tools; Planning and sizing metrics for various environments; On premise and cloud-based deployment; Hot Deployment; Rolling Mode Deployment; Blue Green Deployment.
To create target architecture covering all NFR (Non- Functional Requirements) as per defined blueprints and standards for the various components within a product/solution. Assist in creating and implementing prototype model to clarify requirements and design and uncover risks by generating mockups, screen prototypes and reports. Refine the prototype for early defects and revised customer requirements under supervision. Provide guidance for on premise and cloud-based deployment strategies. Lead the deployment of multiple solution/products within a domain on the leading IAAS Platforms – Azure, GCP etc.
Security Architecture:

Secure Software Development, Data protection, Cryptography, Key management, Identity and Access Management; Industry Standard Authentication mechanisms; Cloud security and Governance tools; Audit, compliance standards; Static Code Scanning Tools; High level Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT); Legal policies (e.g., SOX, GDPR, GLBA, etc.).
To define the security architecture for all the products/solution within a domain considering the various technology components and deployment architectures supported by the respective product. Develop the security assessment framework and basis that assess the current level of maturity from a security standpoint for the various Walmart products/solutions along with the respective engineering teams. Establish unified strategic roadmap for software security within the organization for each of the product.

What you’ll do:
As part of platform operations team, the solution architect will be responsible for below activities,
- Drive the development of platform solutions across architecture, engineering, and operation teams by providing technical leadership, guidance, and direction.
- Design and implement cutting-edge, robust, and scalable cross-functional platform architectures that cater to complex business requirements and customer needs.
- Work closely with key stakeholders, infrastructure teams, and application development teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of platform solutions.
- Define and maintain architecture patterns, best practices, and standards for cross-cutting platform components.
- Assist in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of technology tools, frameworks, and platforms that align with the overall platform strategy.
- Lead proof-of-concept projects, evaluate new technologies, and deliver recommendations based on feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with business requirements.
- Collaborate with various internal and external teams to resolve complex technical issues and drive continuous improvements to the platform.
- Act as a mentor to team members providing guidance, support, and training on best architectural practices.

What you’ll bring:
Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15+ years of experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, Platform Engineer, or similar role.
- Proven experience in designing, building, and operating large scale, multi-platform systems.
- Deep understanding of various architecture patterns and design principles.
- Strong technical knowledge in cloud computing, containers, microservices, DevOps, CI/CD, and related technologies.
- Familiarity with APIs, SDKs, and modern technology models like OpenAPI, GraphQL, and REST.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with various cross-functional teams.
- Ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot complex issues
- In-depth understanding of coding languages (Java, JavaScript, Golang, Python).
- Sound knowledge of various operating systems (linux), messaging system (kafka, IBM MQ, AMQ, Rabbit MQ) and Database SQL/NoSQL (Cassandra, Oracle, Cosmos, Elasticsearch etc)
- Experience supporting platform services, applications, and infrastructure at scale in various roles (Operations, Production support, AD, Infrastructure) with full stack technology stack across applications, infrastructure and data layers.

The annual salary range for this position is $144,000.00-$252,000.00
