The Head of Risk is a senior leadership role within Walmart’s Marketplace business responsible for overseeing the risk management function in the organization. This role reports up to the Vice President of Seller Performance and Support and owns seller policy and plays the lead role in i dentifying , assessing, and mitigating risks, a s well as creating and implementing strategies and plans to enhance organizational performance and achieve business objectives . This leader will also partner closely with the functions responsible for acquiring , lifecycle managing, and optimizing Seller growth and success as well as those that ensure organizational and marketplace compliance.

Responsibilities

Risk Management Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives . Identify potential risks, assess their potential impact, and develop strategies to mitigate and manage them effectively.
  • Provide strategic input and leadership for product, technology and data roadmaps and plans ensuring alignment to requirements of the risk business.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to Marketplace risk management, and proactively incorporate them into risk policies and strategies.

Manage Marketplace Risk :

  • Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures specifically tailored to eCommerce and Marketplace operations, aligning with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify , evaluate, and prioritize risks associated with transactions, payment processing, data security, and fraud prevention.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, compliance, product, technology, data science and operations teams, to establish and communicate risk policies and align and coordinate execution.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging risks and regulatory changes affecting eCommerce, recommending adjustments to risk policies and procedures as needed.
  • Identify and implement effective fraud prevention measures, including the use of fraud detection tools and technologies, to minimize financial losses and reputational damage.
  • Collaborate with internal compliance and audit teams to perform periodic reviews and audits of risk controls and identify areas for improvement.
  • Partner closely with these organizations to ensure risk management practices comply with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to eCommerce teams in implementing risk management practices and ensuring policy adherence.
  • Monitor key risk indicators and metrics related to eCommerce operations, analyze trends, and prepare reports for senior management and executive stakeholders.

Risk Optimization and Mitigation:

  • Develop and implement risk optimization and mitigation strategies and controls to reduce the organization’s exposure to potential risks while best supporting growth plans.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of risk mitigation measures.
  • Risk Assessment and Analysis: Partner with risk decision science to conduct risk assessments to identify , evaluate, and prioritize potential risks.

Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team professionals. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment, promoting professional growth and development within the team.

Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate risk-related information, analyses, and recommendations to senior management, executives, and relevant stakeholders. Present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to facilitate understanding and support decision-making processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, economics, finance, or related disciplines. A master’s degree or MBA in a related field is highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in risk management wit h a trac k reco rd of driving successful outcomes.
  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in eCommerce, Financial Services, and online Marketplaces is highly desirable. This includes experience both building in a high growth environment as well as successfully executing in a multi-billion dollar globally scaled enterprise.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies, product s and technologies, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Excellent leadership and people management abilities, with a proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$260,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.

Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:

– Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)

– Stock equity incentives

management, or related area OR 8 years’ experience in operations, project management, or related area.
