Seasonal Position working Monday – Friday 7:00AM – 4:00PM during the summer.
Start Date: Paid Training scheduled for June 21-23; Summer Camp runs from June 26, 2023 through August 4, 2023
Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Summary

Summer Camp Staff performs general duties relating to programs and activities at Statesville Fitness & Activity Center Summer Camp. Position will provide support for Assistant Facility Supervisor and Summer Camp Supervisor in the execution of activities during the Summer Camp program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead groups of children in age-appropriate activities.
  • Lead daily activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, special events and field trips.
  • Communicate effectively and enjoy working with children ages 5-14.
  • Assist in the set-up/breakdown and execution of the Summer Camp program.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, participants, and parents/guardians
  • Operate independently without the need of constant supervision.
  • Enforce departmental policies governing public safety and quality services.
  • Ensure proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities and free play.
  • Maintain, clean, and care for facility equipment.
  • Exercise professional judgment and good service with participants, staff, and parents/guardians.
  • Supervise facility rentals and special community events.
  • File accident reports and program documentation.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting recreational activities, classes, camps, etc.
  • Develop participant interest and enthusiasm, maintain positive work relationships.
  • Assist in the encouragement of participation and good sportsmanship.
  • Monitor the Summer Camp program.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training.
  • Report to Summer Camp Supervisor, Assistant Facility Supervisor, and Program & Facilities Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Leadership experience in recreation, fitness, and/or child development.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • While performing the duties of the class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills.
  • Observe and interpret situations.
  • Read and interpret data, information, and documents.
  • Interact with City staff and other organizations.
  • Deal with customer relations.
  • Communicate effectively using written and oral skills.
  • Set-up equipment and prepare recreation facility for programs.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Knowledge of municipal recreation practices, and basic rules and regulations governing group athletic games and sporting events.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Requirements

  • Possession of or ability to obtain appropriate North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory driving record.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of or ability to obtain certificates in First Aid, CPR, AED use and NC Child Care certification.

Job Related Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear, both in person or on the telephone, and operate standard office equipment. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. is required. Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data and figures, use measurement devices and a computer terminal.

Working Conditions

An employee in this position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including noise. An employee in this position could be “reasonably anticipated” as a result of performing their job duties to face contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials.
