JOB SUMMARY:

This role will be responsible for designing and building custom and standardized user interfaces for building automation systems in a wide variety of markets and facilities. UIs will be built and operated using building automation software brands such as Alerton, Delta, and Niagara with the expected outcome of allowing building operators to efficiently and intuitively manage HVAC, lighting, and other building controls systems. This role will work extensively with project engineers, programmers, and other technical experts to ensure graphical interfaces meet mechanical systems specifications and customer standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with project managers, engineers, and clients to design and create custom graphical user interfaces for building control systems.
  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts, navigation and user experiences.
  • Create 3D floor plans from project drawings, and develop Mechanical Equipment representations on an as needed bases.
  • Create and modify graphics, layouts, and user interfaces for HVAC, lighting, and other control systems using software such as Niagara Workbench, Ascent Compass, and Delta EnteliVIZ/DGLux
  • Develop and maintain design standards and templates for user interfaces.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and user feedback analysis to inform design decisions.
  • Work with the programming team to integrate graphical interfaces into building automation systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in UI/UX design.
  • Collaborate with team members to share industry practices and toolsets.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency and thorough grasp of visual design theory, including layout composition, typography, color theory, and graphic design principles.
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, or similar programs.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and generic web practices.
  • User-centric mindset, including ability to incorporate user feedback to create user-friendly, intuitive interfaces.
  • Knowledge of usability and accessibility principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding or inclination towards understanding mechanical concepts.
  • Outstanding personal organization and time management skills required, including the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
  • Manage own time to complete projects on time and within labor estimates

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires working in an office environment with periodic visits to project locations including active construction sites. Project sites present typical construction and outdoor conditions. Frequent and repetitive use of office equipment such as computers and peripheral devices required, as well as prolonged periods of working at a desk. Occasional need to lift up to 15 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Annual salary ranges from $68,000 – $117,000 depending on experience

POSITION TYPE AND HOURS

  • Full-time, exempt
  • Typical Monday – Friday working hours with flexibility as needed
  • Local travel required up to with infrequent out-of-state travel

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in graphic design, computer science, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum two years of user interface and graphic design experience
  • Experience working with engineers and other disciplines in a project environment desired
