UX Designer, Design Systems , Devices Design Group

Amazon’s Device and Services Design Group (DDG) is a centralized design studio responsible for developing products multimodal experiences, and platforms, from the Echo Family of Devices, to the Alexa app, to Fire TV and Fire Tablet.

We are looking for a visually-driven, full stack, User Experience Designer to join our growing UX team.

In this role, you will collaborate with a team of world-class multi-disciplinary designers to invent and deliver the core UX/UI building blocks that align and extend the Alexa experience across all Alexa-enabled devices. You will work alongside research, product, design, and engineering teams across the organization to build customer-focused solutions at scale. You must be proactive, creative, flexible, resilient, and able to handle high levels of complexity and ambiguity.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design beautiful, useful, and desirable user interfaces and experiences in a team environment
  • Create user-centered designs by considering user research, customer feedback, metrics, and usability findings
  • Use business requirements, user and market research to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements
  • Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, and prototypes
  • Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications and design patterns
  • Implement and maintain processes for scaling, updating, managing various parts of a design system
  • Develop and maintain documentation of customer behaviors, motivations, and daily habits.

A day in the life

You will create a variety of deliverables, including wireframes, prototypes, user-flows, high-fidelity mockups and specs to communicate design thinking to senior leadership, engineering and product partners at every phase of product development. You will champion a design system and invent and simplify a set of mechanisms and tools that empower designers and engineers building the future of multimodal experiences. You will collaborate on a daily basis with a world-class, multi-disciplinary team of design, product, and engineering professionals working on some of the most challenging problems at Amazon today.

About the team

You will join a team of full stack designers working across devices to deliver exception customer experiences. Customer obsession is at the core of all of our design decisions. We dive deep with product managers, designers, and engineers from various domains to learn how they are serving their customers. We work cross functionally to craft scalable, cohesive, and usable multimodal solutions for our customers. The team makes strategic decisions that allow partners to take action, move quickly, take ownership and deliver results. We earn the trust of others within DDG to foster an environment of inclusion and openness, allowing everyone to do their best everyday.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of design experience
  • Have an available online portfolio
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or equivalent design-related field
  • Experience using best practices for information architecture and design, as well as knowledge of usability principles and techniques
  • Experience in a variety of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Principle, and Framer
  • Experience with research and human-centered design

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with consumer brand experience design and an understanding of storytelling
  • Ability to extract abstract concepts and quickly turn around rigorous flows and mockups reflecting a range of options
  • Visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides
  • Additional design skills in related fields, including motion design, prototyping, and web development
  • Experience in designing interactions for voice led devices
  • Proficiency in presenting design work to user experience teams, product and engineering teams, and executives for review and feedback
  • Experience with the principles behind Behavior Design
  • Knowledge with the fundamentals of cognitive psychology
  • Working knowledge of the foundations of engineering principles and how design translates into code
  • Proficiency with platform tools used by designers and engineers to build immersive experiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $94,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $184,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
