Job Summary:
Join the world of specialty veterinary care by joining UW Veterinary Care’s (UWVC) Dermatology team! This position provides primary nursing support to the dermatology service and may float amongst other UWVC small animal services as needed. Each day is different, supporting patients and their owners in this unique role! You will have the opportunity to learn about many specialty services and increase your nursing skills in this position.

Veterinary Technician III (AN004) Tasks:
- Responsible for independently and proficiently performing technical responsibilities to provide quality patient care in support of daily operational needs
- Participates in the instructional needs of the teaching hospital as needed. Participates in the training and mentoring of students, interns, technicians, assistants, and residents
- Responsible for maintaining equipment and adequate inventory of area supplies
- General cleaning and maintenance for the service
- Assist with collecting laboratory samples and preparation of the samples
- Participates in record keeping and billing. Ensure charges are captured accurately and in a timely manner
- Help assist with monitoring department schedule and be able to prepare for future appointments
- Communicate with clients via phone or email regarding questions, prescription requests, patient updates, DVM recommendations, etc.
- Ensure client communication is documented and patient information is stored correctly
- Help aid DVMs in patient appointments, procedures, and surgeries
- Help maintain and provide back up to the client care liaison duties (ex: scheduling, waitlist, student orientation, etc.)
- Bring a positive, helpful, and collaborative attitude to the unit and hospital. Listens effectively to others and contributes to a positive working environment. Supports/conveys positive, friendly image of the University/department.
- Continue to gain and seek knowledge opportunities that will benefit self, service, and the hospital
- Promotes emphasis on customer satisfaction and importance of responding courteously and promptly to all internal and external customers
- Follows personal, hospital, and section policies and procedures
- Participate in rotating on-call shifts as required by the hospital
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.
To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.
To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.
License/Certification:
Preferred
CVT – Certified Veterinary Technician
or eligible to obtain Wisconsin licensure within 12 months
Work Schedule:
Operational department hours Monday-Friday, 7:30am – 5pm; schedule to be determined on department operational and staff needs.
Flexibility to cover various shifts as needed. Some holidays and weekends may be required, based on needs of the unit. On-call hours as required by the hospital.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Sign-on Bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians)!
