Vice President, Global Media Relations, DEI, Climate and Sustainability

The Vice President, Global Media Relations, DEI and Climate for Chubb is responsible for managing and executing external communications campaigns globally for Chubb, including diversity, equity and inclusion and climate initiatives. As a member of Chubb’s Media Relations and Financial Communications Center of Excellence, s/he will execute media relations strategies that are aligned with and support business and brand objectives, collaborating with colleagues in social media, content development, internal communications and other marketing and communications disciplines. The successful candidate will have a track record in media relations and established relationships with a broad range of reporters, editors and producers, preferably in the financial services sector. S/he will have a nose for news and the ability to create compelling stories and brand narratives. The successful candidate will bring creativity, tenacity, strong writing skills, and the ability to effectively support subject-matter experts and executives around the world.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with financial communications – quarterly earnings, announcements and other filings and company news.
  • Manage and execute media relations programs with the highest standards and impact that support the ambitions and priorities for Chubb’s DEI program and its Climate and Sustainability offerings.
  • Proactively engage with target media, including top-tier and broadcast outlets, to generate results and premium positioning.
  • Provide effective support to position subject-matter experts as thought leaders and spokespeople on important topics.
  • Produce communications, including business messaging, talking points; Q&A documents; news releases; news and feature articles for internal and external audiences; and executive biographies. Generate and execute on original social media-editorial content as needed.
  • Work in lock step with marketing, social media, internal communications, content and creative services disciplines to ensure campaigns are aligned and executed seamlessly.
  • Ensure the reputation of the company and its brand is always of utmost importance; subject matter experts are fully coached and prepared for each media interaction.
  • Maintain global subject-matter expert list, media coaching materials and project trackers.
  • Identify and support speaking opportunities (conferences/events) for executives across regions and key markets.
  • Stay apprised of news and trends that impact the company and the industry.
  • Actively monitor existing and emerging issues that could impact the brand and provide communications support for issues/crisis.
  • Provide communications support for trade/industry functions and award nominations.
  • Produce periodic reports that measure the results and impact of PR campaigns.
  • Handle issues management, cyber preparedness and develop processes that improve team connectedness across the global and ensure best practices.
  • Manage agency workstreams and outside vendors as needed

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably with a major or concentration in Journalism/Communications/English or related liberal arts major. Masters degree or MBA is a plus
  • 15+ years of public relations experience in a PR agency or in-house PR role, with proven results generating top-tier media results
  • Excellent written and editing skills
  • Established media relationships and track record in knowing how to develop them – particularly in the ESG, Climate, Sustainability and DE&I, CSR areas
  • Solid track record of interacting with members of the media – top-tier and broadcast; proactively identifying, developing and pitching stories to journalists, that produce a steady stream of garnered stories
  • Analytical thinker who can craft clear messages and storylines from complex issues
  • Fluency with key media channels – traditional, broadcast, online, social media
  • A well-developed news sense and how journalists do their job

Education/ Certifications

  • B.S. or B.A. in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field. Masters degree or MBA is a plus

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of core media/social media measurement, monitoring and targeting tools, e.g., Cision
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills

In New York City, NY the pay range for the role is $128,500 to $215,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
