Position Purpose
The Volunteer Coordinator plans, coordinates, monitors, and implements the department’s volunteer program by assessing the department’s needs and ensuring services are provided to the community through volunteer activity.
Dallas Animal Services: Responsible for working with co-coordinator to coordinate the activities of the volunteer program for Dallas Animal Services and oversee all Spanish language programming and messaging. Provides support to the Marketing Team as DAS’ Spanish Language Spokesperson for radio and television media as well as various social media support functions. Must have exceptional communication skills, and extensive customer service and leadership skills to integrate volunteers into various shelter operations and work closely with the Volunteer Team to meet the performance goals of the department. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook. Experience with volunteer databases, including Better Impact, Chameleon animal shelter database, and email marketing software is a plus. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with ambitious goals and possess strong interpersonal and HR skills. Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with city officials, vendors, local businesses and non-profits, other government agencies, other employees, volunteers, and the general public.
Essential Functions
1 Manages, facilitates, and coordinates the volunteer program within the department; performs general training of volunteer staff, recruiting of volunteers, monitoring volunteer activities, and conducting programs to show appreciation of services rendered to the department.
2 Conducts and performs volunteer recognition programs for the department; develops, plans, implements and executes a variety of programs citywide.
3 Meets, engages, and collaborates with outside groups to recognize services of volunteers from various corporate entities and other entities.
4 Conducts background checkups and approves the placement of volunteers; processes applications and all personal information to ensure quality of volunteer program and service.
5 Establishes, evaluates, and revises volunteer program procedures and guidelines to ensure effective implementation program.
6 Researches and collects program statistical data and information to evaluate effectiveness of program.
7 Recruits volunteers for the department by making oral presentations to other groups such as civic and professional groups, colleges, universities, and church groups.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) years of developing, organizing, and overseeing activities or programs in at least two of the following areas:
- Hiring and training staff/volunteers
- Evaluating staff/volunteer performance
- Developing policies and procedures
- Community outreach and education
EQUIVALENCIES:
- Associate degree in any field plus two (2) years of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a business administration, public administration, education, or social science field will meet the education and experience requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus one (1) year of required experience will meet the education and experience requirement.
LICENSE:
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Bilingual Spanish read, write, speaking skills
- Availability to work various shifts including evenings and weekends.
- NO Felony Drug offenses within the last 10 years
- NO Animal Cruelty convictions
PREFERENCE:
- Camera media interview experience a plus

The salary listed on the job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
