The anticipated salary range for this role is between $123,000.00 and $175,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
We are looking for a strategic, innovative self-starter with strong legal operations acumen and experience with key aspects of outside counsel management in a, growing legal team. The candidate must have excellent collaboration and execution skills, plus experience building and maintaining strong cross-functional relationships with partners outside of the legal department. Strong understanding of law firm pricing strategies, alternative fee arrangements, and eBilling systems, as well as data analytics and visualizations is required. This position will report to the Head of Legal Operations.
Role Objectives
- Responsible for reviewing and facilitating billing agreements, establishing and evaluating pricing proposals for legal matters, monitoring and managing our legal budgeting effectively, and analyzing our billing data to inform decision-making.
- Assist with the implementation and execution of strategic initiatives and annual goals relating to law firm use.
- Maintain documentation for core outside counsel management processes, procedures, and workflows.
- Partner with the Head of Legal Operations to identify and support legal department initiatives as they pertain to awl firm use, creating consistency and driving innovation in execution and management.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree; JD preferred
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
- Experience with an in-house law department strongly preferred
- Proven success with cost management strategy
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills
