MAJOR FUNCTIONS
This is an inventory intense, customer service driven work position with moderate complexity involving manual labor and computer-oriented work in the receiving, storing, inventory control, distribution, ordering, and issuing of a variety of materials, supplies, and equipment. This position is responsible for the maintenance of audit worthy and accurate inventory records. Duties are performed under the direction of the Purchasing Foreman.
This position is also considered an emergency essential position. An emergency essential position is required to perform a variety of functions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse weather events (hurricane, tornado, flood etc.) or other contingencies (natural or manmade).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Inspects the quantity and quality of goods received for compliance of specifications and accepts or rejects goods as indicated.
- Signs receipts for proper delivery of goods and follows up on delayed deliveries or discrepancies.
- Prepares and submits requisitions for stock replacement.
- Issues stock daily, enters orders into the computer and audits transactions.
- Performs routine purchases from permissible specified sources when authorized in the necessary quantities and qualities.
- Develops and places into effect efficient storage methods, including the allocation of proper bins, locks, or other storage spaces for security of stock.
- Assists in maintaining records of purchases.
- Optimize opportunities for improved sources, distribution of business, prices, and terms relative to changing economic conditions and needs.
- Assists with disposal of surplus inventories or scrap material and surplus or obsolete equipment.
- Makes decisions andassists on selection of suppliers based on interviewing vendors, delivery dates, prices, ability to resolve problems of shortages, and improper order resolution.
- Follows safety procedures and precautions at all times.
- Maintains professional communication with internal and external customers at all times.
- Receive warehouse stock orders, pull, wrap, load, and unload delivery trucks in a neat, orderly and efficient manner.
- Drive a vehicle to various locations along to deliver goods; maintain cleanliness of vehicles; service and run safety checks on assigned vehicle.
- Monitor and update computerized inventory control records as needed; perform periodic warehouse inventory activities; plan storage locations and utilize space efficiently.
- Inspect shipments against packing slips and purchase orders, report damage, shortage, or discrepancies.
- Greet visitors and City personnel at the counter; receive and issue materials, supplies and equipment; coordinate maintenance materials for special projects.
- Communicate with upper management and City personnel regarding the pickup and delivery of orders; communicate with outside vendors regarding pricing and status of orders.
- Create, organize and maintain MSDS material binder.
- Audit, stress and suggest safety procedures and concerns in order to eliminate root causes.
- Ability to perform all functions of Underground Utilities Warehouse and Massalina Purchasing Warehouse equally.
- Operate a District vehicle and a variety of warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies.
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the practices involving warehouse inventories.
- Knowledge of proper invoicing, recording, and delivery receipts.
- Ability to understand, transmit, and take action based upon oral and written instructions in person, telephonically and via email in a professional, courteous and team focused manner.
- Exercising strong organizations skills are necessary.
- Proficiency with various computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative, courteous and effective working relationships with other departments.
- Ability to understand and learn new software programs as needed.
- Knowledge of basic methods, practices and terminology used in warehouse operations.
- Be familiar with methods, equipment and materials used in general maintenance work.
- Understanding of proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Experience with proper loading and unloading of trucks.
- Understanding of common shipping and receiving procedures.
- Knowledge of equipment and machines used in the receipt, storage and shipping of supplies, materials and equipment.
- The ability to keep records in a variety of manual and computerized techniques.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Understanding of proper, safe lifting techniques.
- Operate a variety of warehouse machines and equipment.
- Participate in all warehouse operations.
- Utilize space efficiently and effectively.
- Order parts and supplies according to established guidelines.
- Assist skilled personnel in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.

- Operate a computer at an advanced level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma (or equivalency) is required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in receiving, storing, and issuing a wide variety of warehouse items. Training may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Understanding and knowledge of computerized inventory records.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Experience operating a forklift preferred (ability to learn operational skills is required).
