Position Summary
Supervise, plan and coordinate the work of staff engaged in the operations of the Water Quality and Life Support activities at the Aquarium including laboratory analysis and research projects; preparation of reports;coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the public; SCUBA dive for Life Support related projects; provide technical staff assistance to the BioPark Curator/Life Support.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or science; and
Three (3) years of experience working with aquatic systems including pumps, filters, ozone generators, water quality laboratory equipment or skilled trades experience in pipe fitting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or HVAC; and
To include (1) year supervisory or lead experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Possession of a scuba diving certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
Ability to pass and maintain a Dive Physical.
Preferred Knowledge
- Operations, services and activities of a comprehensive public aquarium program
- Operational characteristics, services and activities of a water quality laboratory-testing program
- Modern and complex principles and practices of water quality laboratory testing and analysis for aquariums
- Standard laboratory procedures involving use of test materials and samples for aquarium systems
- Aquarium life support systems
- Safety procedures, specifically in the handling of chemicals and working with large machinery
- Personal computers and mainframes for data base management and data manipulation
- Aquarium industry procedures, practices methods, material and issues related to life support and water quality
- Principles of supervision, training and evaluation
- Principles and practices of research and analysis
- Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
