Primary Responsibilities
HDR Engineering is in search of an experienced Water Resources Engineer (Irrigation Focus) to join our Montana team and be an integral part of our growing irrigation practice.
The primary duties of the Water Resources Engineer are:
- Manage the planning and design of hydraulic and irrigation projects
- Collect assimilate and present data in reports memos and public forum
- Lead production of design calculations and technical report
- Develop cost estimates and economic analysis
- Lead preparation of engineering plans and specifications for design of detention facilities, storm drains, irrigation pumping and conveyance facilities (including diversion and control structures), reservoirs, and other hydraulic structures.
- Will work independently as well as plan organize and supervise work of medium to large teams of professionals and technician’s dependent on project/task.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- PE.
- 5 years Water Resources experience, emphasis on irrigation preferred.
- Experience in water resources planning hydrology/hydraulics, drainage/flood control design and irrigation.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Experience with business development related to irrigation projects and working with irrigation districts, the Bureau of Reclamation, Army Corp of Engineers, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and stormwater agencies is preferred.
- Experience with Tribal projects is desirable.

The expected compensation range for this position is $66,000 – $95,000 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles are eligible for limited benefits.)
