The Web Graphics Designer is responsible for creating visually appealing and user-centric graphics and designs for the Department of Parks and Recreation website. This role combines creativity, technical proficiency, and an understanding of user experience to produce engaging and impactful visual elements that enhance the overall web design. The Web Graphics Designer collaborates with cross-functional teams including web developers, UX designers, and content creators to bring design concepts to life and ensure a seamless and aesthetically pleasing online experience.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County’s Public Affairs and Community Engagement Division (PACE) is seeking a Web Graphics Designer. The PACE focuses on promoting park and recreation programs, encourages participation and involvement, and informs residents of available services through various forms of communication media. The Web Graphics Designer reports to the Website Manager within the Web Unit of Public Affairs and Community Engagement.
Examples of Important Duties
- Graphic Design: Develop creative and innovative visual concepts, graphics, and layouts for web pages, banners, icons, infographics, and other digital assets, maintaining brand consistency.
- User-Centric Design: Create designs that enhance user experience, incorporating best practices for usability, accessibility, and responsive design to ensure optimal performance across various devices and screen sizes.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with web developers, UX designers, and content creators to translate design concepts into functional web interfaces, ensuring seamless integration of design and functionality.
- Brand Consistency: Maintain a strong understanding of the brand identity and guidelines, ensuring that all design elements align with the brand’s visual language and values.
- Visual Storytelling: Use graphics and design elements to effectively communicate ideas, messages, and narratives to the website visitors, enhancing engagement and interaction.
- Image Optimization: Optimize and prepare graphics for web use, considering factors such as image compression, file formats, and loading speeds to ensure optimal website performance.
- Research and Trends: Stay updated on design trends, industry best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously improve design skills and incorporate innovative design approaches.
- Mockups and Prototypes: Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to communicate design concepts and gather feedback from stakeholders and team members.
- Feedback Incorporation: Incorporate feedback and iterate on designs based on input from stakeholders, ensuring the final product meets project objectives and requirements.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of design elements and graphics across different browsers and devices to identify and address any inconsistencies or issues.
- Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, adhering to project timelines and deadlines while maintaining high-quality design standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Graphics, Studio, Commercial Art or any related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience as a Web Graphics Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing web design projects and graphics.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD) and other relevant design tools.
- Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, responsive design, and web development processes.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web design frameworks is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail, creativity, and a keen eye for aesthetics.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with SEO and digital marketing concepts is advantageous.

Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office with considerable pressure to meet deadlines. May work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Driving is required. Regular contact and interaction with the general public and staff.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.
