Position Objective
Are you ready to put your web design and problem-solving skills to the test? Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is seeking a self-directed, hands-on Web Services Technician. As the Web Services Technician, you will be working independently and collaboratively with the Web Technologies and Digital Marketing Manager to manage and maintain the reliability of CPTC internet properties, including cptc.edu, microsites, staff intranet, and mission-critical web-based service platforms.

In Your First 6 Months:
In your first six months as the Web Services Technician, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about CPTC’s systems
  • Identify issues that require immediate attention
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director to prioritize updating and maintenance to ensure continuity of service and ongoing integration between systems
  • Meet colleagues across the college such as IT and staff in departments who require assistance with content management and/or creation

In Your First Year:
In your first year as the Web Services Technician, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Add new module to the college website for items such as:
    • performing overall improvements to UX
    • moving the stand-alone blog into the main website
    • improving SEO
    • implement ADA-accessible colors

Your Team:
You’ll join a team of creative, data-driven colleagues who work together to unlock Clover Park’s potential. This position reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and is housed in Institutional Research Division. The three departments in this division are Marketing and Communications, Institutional Research, and the CPTC Foundation.

Marketing & Communications is a three-person team comprising the Web Services Technician, the Digital Content Creator, and the Executive Director. This team works nearly exclusively in the cloud and uses the college’s ticketing system, online chat, and video meetings to connect and keep one another updated about projects’ status. As the college’s in-house expert on the workings of the website and related platforms, the Web Services Technician works closely with people across the college to provide training and support. They will cross-train with IT to help spread know-how across divisions.

The Web Services Technician is a full-time position.

This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the AFT Professional Staff, Local 6431.
Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)
Duty: Manage/maintain current Web Technologies and Services

  • Maintain, upgrade and install software, databases and content delivery systems
  • Propose and implement solutions to website issues and other problems encountered by users
  • Create and maintain a plan for continued site support, growth, development and upgrades
  • Ensure high-quality products and services, according to the provided standards, processes and procedures
  • Provide training, access, and user support to campus for tools and software
  • Use website analytics to monitor and report on website status
  • Use website analytics to guide search engine optimization and other improvements
  • Modify web page content, form, and functionality

Duty: New Projects and Properties Development

  • Create and maintain a plan for continued site support, growth, development and upgrades
  • Participate in planning new platform adoption with marketing and technology teams
  • Liaise with campus departments and divisions on the implications of proposed and new platforms
  • Work with outside vendors and internal development teams on the implementation of web and web-connected projects.
  • Train end users and technology staff on web platforms, applications and projects and develop training resources

Duty: Server management & maintenance

  • Manage and maintain the web server, including overseeing appropriate security measures and software updates while managing risk and database integrity
  • Update web and server platforms in accordance with bug fix releases, updates and institutional security policies in coordination with information policies to ensure that websites are protected from malware and other types of cyber threats
  • Periodically review web server software and structures for security and efficiency, recommending changes as needed • Ensure high availability and backup integrity for all web services

Duty: Cloud-based platform solutions & vendor management

  • Propose server hosting and other platform contracts as needed
  • Work with vendors to ensure timely delivery of contracted services and products

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related education; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year experience in website management and development using HTML and CSS
  • 1 year experience in server support and server management
  • 1 year experience working in a CMS such as WordPress, Drupal or another web content management system.
  • Experience integrating web service platforms with other enterprise technologies and databases.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, SEO, and UX

Preferred Qualifications

  • UX and information architecture experience or training
  • Familiarity with PHP, MySQL, and LAMP servers
  • 1 year experience with SharePoint
  • 3 years of experience in website management and development
  • 3 years of experience in server support and server management
  • Experience with Pantheon for server and website management
  • Working knowledge of Bootstrap and Javascript
  • Google Tag Manager or other tag management system experience
  • Experience working in higher education or public sector
