Definition

The Web/Social Media Manager is a highly creative and innovative professional who edits, manages and develops content for the City’s websites, social media outlets and mobile app. The team member also assists in developing and creating print and digital design projects to market and promote the City’s brand. As part of managing the City’s websites, he or she identifies content needs, partners with City departments to maintain data and information and uses best practices to enhance the overall usability, search capabilities and overall effectiveness, efficiency and presentation of the websites. He or she coordinates with other departments to support their respective missions, ensuring consistency in voice, brand awareness, and social media and app presences.

This position reports to the Communication Director.

Examples of Work

  • Oversees content and design of City websites, assuring timely and consistent updates;
  • Oversees content development, information distribution and functionality associated with City’s mobile app; assuring all City programs and services are featured;
  • Develops and executes a clearly defined social media strategy for the City;
  • Ensures that all City social media marketing and promotion projects comply with City objectives and approved protocol;
  • Administers Dreamweaver, Adobe Creative Suite and Photoshop Design;
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots flow of information on website; plans for traffic growth and general website expansion and presents costs implications for the City;
  • Provides feedback to other departments, based on information obtained; establishes deadlines for receiving information;
  • Maintains a “back-up system” for the City’s website as part of the City’s disaster recovery plan; Integrates and updates Website as new technology emerges, to include existing and updated data through the Website structure, organization, and content;
  • Ensures the City’s social media strategies increase brand equity and awareness; analyzes current and projected social media trends, while identifying, interpreting, reporting and framing strategies based on global social media trends;
  • Performs periodic market research analysis to identify opportunities for the City; collaborates with other departments and/or community partners to develop unique marketing strategies and partnerships;
  • Design print and digital materials in alignment with the City’s strategic goals and building on the City’s brand;
  • Trains others within the department on processes, procedures and principles of developing and maintaining the City’s website;
  • Receives and posts up-to-date information from Emergency Operations Center;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned;
  • Subject to 24 hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification
A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of verifiable and relevant professional experience are required.
