Job Description Summary

The Wellness and Recreation team manages multiple fitness and recreation facilities and coordinates a variety of on- and off-campus recreation and wellness education programming. Along with professional staff and graduate assistants, the Wellness Peer Educator is responsible for coordinating services, resources, and programs related to holistic wellness education for students. All Wellness Peer Educators are members of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Actively participate in peer educator training and certification programs as required.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of in-person outreach and educational events related to a variety of wellness topics, including but not limited to physical and mental health, use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and managing stress and sleep in a college environment.
  • Participate in training and then develop audience-appropriate educational outreach for others on holistic wellness, including emotional, intellectual, physical, social, environmental, financial, and spiritual wellness.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of program materials, including distributing flyers and publicity as well as representing the Dean of Students Office at events and brief presentations.
  • Help the Peer Educator team research, plan, develop, and implement campus-wide awareness and education passive campaigns through print, social media, and other means of communication.
  • Staff tabling events throughout the year to promote awareness of healthy behaviors.
  • Conduct outreach to various student organizations to create opportunities for collaboration on educational outreach to their members.
  • Educate Chapman students about high-risk drinking, drug use, substance use, recovery and active bystander intervention in a positive and nonjudgmental manner.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of engaging educational outreach during major campus events/activities during high-risk times such as Orientation, Welcome Week, Labor Day Weekend, Halloween, Undie Run, Interterm, Spring Break, and graduation weekend.
  • Act as a role model and positive voice on campus in promoting greater health-conscious attitudes and challenging campus social norms where appropriate.
  • Assist with program assessment, including contributing to the development of an end-of-year report.
  • Assist with administrative work, including data management, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified through the end of the academic year. If an applicant is not already certified, certification will be coordinated by the Department of Student Engagement upon employment.

Time Commitment

  • Mandatory training August 14-16, 2023
  • Ability to work 10 hours per week as necessary in Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Late night, early morning, and weekend hours are sometimes required.
  • Interterm work may be available but is not required.
