Western Regeneration Leader

Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Regeneration Leader to lead our Western Regeneration businesses located in Western Washington and Oregon. As the Western Regeneration Leader, you will be accountable for the safe and profitable operation of the Western Timberlands’ Regeneration organization, and the delivery of high performing seedlings and seeds to Western Timberlands operations and external customers. Your scope of accountabilities will span a broad set of areas including safety, operations, sales and marketing, quality, environmental, financial, and technology. The position reports to the Western Timberlands Silviculture Director and can be based out of our Vancouver, WA office, or other Weyerhaeuser offices located within the Western Regeneration footprint.

Weyerhaeuser’s Western Timberlands operates three bareroot seedling nurseries, two greenhouse facilities, four seed orchards and a seed processing facility producing seed and seedlings for use on company lands and for sale to third parties. Geographic landscape for these operations stretches from Turner, Oregon to Sequim, Washington. The Regeneration operation is closely aligned with the Western Timberlands organization and strategy through the Silviculture Director. Regeneration produces approximately 45 million seedlings and 3,000 lbs. of seed per year, and generates more than $16MM in sales. The total number of employees and contractors amounts to approximately 100 year-round, and up to 500 on a seasonal basis. The employee base includes a small bargaining unit at one of the sites.

Key Functions

The Western Regeneration Leader directs this business through a team of geographically dispersed skilled professionals. The main functions for this role include:

  • Establishing and overseeing strategic goals for the operations relating to safety, environmental, financial, crop quality and customer value delivery
  • Effectively managing P&L and balance sheet, cost allocation, budgeting, and capital expenditures
  • Overseeing sales and marketing and administration functions, including value propositions, pricing, customer interactions, market forecasting and transaction processing
  • Ensuring replication and accountability of best practices across business facilities
  • Maintaining strong cohesion and collaboration within the Regeneration business and providing leadership to the functional/facility leaders
  • Leading innovation efforts to ensure implementation and replication of the latest science and methods

Qualifications

  • At least three years of management and financial accountability for production operations, including management of professional employees.
  • Strong people and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate a team of highly skilled professionals to achieve strong results in a high-pressure environment
  • Proven experience in coaching and providing performance feedback
  • Proven track record of delivering strong business results
  • Strong strategic and analysis skills
  • Solid project leadership, facilitation, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated capability and understanding in nursery, forestry, or agricultural production processes
  • Strong communication and relationship skills
  • Ability to maintain confidence and credibility with customers, business leaders and employees
  • Willing to travel approximately 20-30% (Washington and Oregon)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced skills or education in plant biology, agricultural engineering, or crop science
  • Experience with field forestry
  • Experience leading process and/or supply chain improvement initiatives

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $122K- $184K based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 20% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
