The salary range for this position is $5373-$6350 per month depending upon experience and is non-negotiable.

Adult Protective Services Workforce Innovations (APSWI) is a workforce development program that provides innovative workforce development to Adult Protective Services (APS) professionals. APSWI mission is to provide exceptional learning and development experiences for the transformation of individuals, organizations, and communities to ensure that older adults and adults with disabilities who are vulnerable and experience abuse receive high quality, effective interventions, and services.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under the general direction of the APSWI Workforce Development Supervisor the Workforce Development Specialist will develop and oversee the development of workforce training and curriculum development that meets the needs of Adult Protective Services (APS) stakeholders. This position also works closely with the county, state and national stakeholders and the APSWI Curriculum Development Supervisor to develop workforce development curricula in various modalities (i.e., instructor-led, eLearnings, coaching products, video demonstrations, desk guides), much of which is used as the national standard for APS training. This position will also work closely with APS subject-matter experts on the development of curricula and training tools and enhancements. This position can work remotely from a home office or in-person at the San Diego office. Occasional travel is required.
SPECIFIC DUTIES

This is a 40 hour a week full time position working M-F from 8:00 to 4:30 p.m. and is based on contract funding subject to annual renewal. The position is subject to intermittent overnight travel and work shifts outside of normal business hours including weekends and evening.

Please note: some duties may include working with and/or exposure to sensitive/traumatic topics or material dealing with child abuse, elder abuse, and/or issues and scenarios related to mental health, substance use, or racism.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT (35%)

  • Identify APS curriculum and workforce development needs
  • Oversee the development and/or revision of APS curriculum and workforce development projects
  • Monitor progress toward project goals, priorities and major work schedules
  • Identify, recruit and develop scopes of work with subject matter experts/consultants, curricula developers and trainers
  • Evaluate subject matter experts (SMEs), provide feedback as appropriate, identify development opportunities
  • Pilot, evaluate and implement workforce development materials and curriculum in a variety of modalities
  • Participate in APS workforce development advisory committee meetings as appropriate to facilitate, consult and inform curriculum development projects

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT (20%)

  • Develop, revise and review workforce development curricula and training delivery to meet regional, statewide and/or nationwide needs as appropriate
  • Maintain current workforce development training materials, making modifications as indicated by curriculum advisory committee(s), APSWI Curriculum Development Supervisor and stakeholders
  • Participate in Academy’s evaluation efforts when needed, to inform the development and implementation of appropriate evaluation plans

TRAINING, MEETING FACILITATION AND COACHING (20%)

  • Create, convene and facilitate workgroups and meetings with stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration
  • Provide training and presentations to various stakeholders
  • Deliver training as appropriate
  • Provide individual and group workforce development coaching to APS professionals as determined by deliverables

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION AND COORDINATION (10%)

  • Develop and maintain strong, positive, collaborative working relationships with county, regional, state and national stakeholders
  • Demonstrate political acumen
  • Manage stakeholder communications
  • Market workshops and other deliverables
  • Participate in APSWI strategic planning and program operation meetings

ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES PRACTICE IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES (10%)

  • Stay abreast of current and emerging adult protective services initiatives and issues at the county, regional, state and national levels
  • Participate in workforce development evaluation and research
  • Serve as a liaison with key stakeholders to develop strong partnerships, identify workforce development needs and to identify subject matter experts.
  • Maintain active involvement with National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA)
  • Provide technical assistance to APS programs nationwide

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5%)

  • Participate in Academy committees or workgroups and in Academy-wide meetings, trainings and special events
  • Perform other duties as assigned which are in the best interests of the Academy for Professional Excellence.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in appropriate field related to the program/project
    -OR-
  • Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years of previous experience related to the program/project.
  • One (1) year of experience leading or coordinating a program within the industry and/or supervising employees.

    (A master’s degree may be substituted for years of experience, up to two years)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field
  • Fluency in using standard office packages for report preparation, curriculum development, presentation designs, and other work products as needed
  • Knowledge of current and emerging adult protective services initiatives and issues
  • Experience working in a public adult protective services program
  • Experience working in health services, human services or social services for a public agency (example: state or county health and/or human services agency)
  • Experience leading collaboratives with local, regional, state and national level APS and/or aging program stakeholders
  • Experience planning and coordinating projects and deliverables
  • Progressively responsible experience in managing projects
  • Two (2) years of experience training and developing workforce development curriculum
