Job Summary Department Purpose
Student Affairs Marketing and Communications (SAMC) offers strategic marketing and communications solutions that increase student awareness of student life offerings, enhance students’ experience at UC Davis by making it easier for them to find and understand what is available, help students recognize Student Affairs as a primary resource for student life programs and services and increase knowledge of services offered by the division among all campus constituents.
The Student Affairs Marketing and Communications Department serves as the primary marketing and communications office for the Student Affairs Vice Chancellors’ Office and for departments and units within the Division of Student Affairs. SAMC is responsible for developing and implementing unified identity guidelines for the division, providing consultation to departments and units on how best to market their programs and services to students, fulfilling graphic design and marketing requests and managing communications vehicles that serve the entire division, including LCD advertising screens, the Student Affairs and student life websites, and the student life social media pages and calendar. SAMC also serves as the divisional liaison for the campus’s content management system for websites. This position assists with SAMC’s content strategy and develops divisional newsletters, articles and website copy. It also supports other content needs, such as crisis and executive communications, campaign messaging and departmental outreach.
Job Summary
Under general direction of the associate director for Student Affairs Marketing and Communications, this position is responsible for developing content strategies, writing, content editing, copy editing, proofreading, conducting interviews, telling engaging stories and analyzing results. This position also supports crisis and executive communications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Experience with the creation, development and dissemination of newsletters using third-party email clients. Experience with and knowledge of marketing communication concepts and principles; skills to prepare and produce creative and original copy for promotional marketing materials. Knowledge of marketing communications principles, practices and trends.
- Experience with Macintosh and Windows based computer environment; familiarity with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the Google suite.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Knowledge of the application and use of the AP Style Guide and sSkills to apply language accurately and creatively, recognize and use correct English grammar, spell and punctuate correctly, and understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.
- Skill to independently gather information through research and interviews; understand and translate complex concepts; and write clear, accurate and compelling copy in an appropriate form for diverse audiences and publications.
- Organizational skills to work on multiple projects and to work effectively under intense deadline pressure, requiring organizational skills, time management efficiency and attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience specializing in higher education marketing, public relations and/or corporate or non-profit communications. Experience with developing and implementing crisis communications and knowledge of best practices in crisis management.
- Experience analyzing and applying market research and skills to exercise sound judgment in developing and selecting audience appropriate content. Skill to clearly communicate and work collaboratively on job specifications/instructions with designers, photographers, printers and other vendors to ensure quality, including reviewing proofs
- Skill to read, understand, analyze, interpret, evaluate, and apply federal and state law, as well as university rules, regulations, and policies, including campus issues, policies, procedures, and practices in the areas of student programs. Experience working with and creating content for a student audience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Familiarity with UC Davis identity standards.
