Duties

Create effective communication strategies for NIU, promoting the mission, impact, and value to the IC and Nation.

Coordinate or develop external and internal communications processes across the University and with IC stakeholders.

Plan, research, write, and edit talking points, correspondence, executive summaries, communications, articles, presentations, and briefing materials.

Collaborate across NIU to research and develop articles and other products for broad dissemination on NIU and ODNI websites.

Plan, promote, and cover events, seminars, and other significant activities.

Coordinate social media campaigns, messaging, and articles with ODNI’s Strategic Communications office.

Manage media inquiries in collaboration with ODN’s Strategic Communications Office and arrange interviews, talking points, and statements.

Manage content between NIU’s low-side and high-side websites to ensure continuity across domains. Identify new opportunities to reach and engage with key audiences.

Establish processes to monitor and gather statistics and data on the dissemination of information, continually improving communication modes and messaging.

Plan, manage, coordinate, and integrate work activities, assignments, and projects with stakeholders internal to the NIU and across the IC.

Define and manage complex publication projects; apply techniques to manage multiple projects concurrently and efficiently and develop production timelines that ensure the delivery of high-quality products on or before the deadline.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:

Previous experience as communications specialist.

Experience and knowledge in proofreading, editing, and journalistic writing.

Working knowledge of strategic planning and project management.

Ability to serve as an advisor on communications activities.

Ability to work strategically, critically, and creatively and to instill those qualities into the NIU environment.

Ability to interact and communicate with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds.

Communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to exert influence with senior leadership and communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.

Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a diverse, creative, and often fast-paced project team environment and to efficiently manage time.

Passion for and proven ability to build and cultivate partnerships through outreach and engagement across the IC and externally.

Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree.

Additional information

Job Interview Travel: Candidates from outside the Washington, D.C. area may be selected for a telephone, teleconference, or in-person interview.

Salary Determination: A current Federal Government employee, selected for a detail, will be assigned to the position at their current grade and salary.
