Creative Strategist

We are seeking an experienced, highly-motivated, and creative individual to join the NYC Department of Transportation’s Office of Communications as a Creative Strategist. The ideal candidate is an excellent story teller with an outstanding sense of humor. Reporting directly to the Chief Communications Officer, the Creative Strategist will help develop and execute across communications channels, the creative vision for the agency’s communications. The Creative Strategist will help craft the agency’s voice on social media and other communications channels, develop creative content, and offer strategic support on the creative vision for marketing, graphic design, videography and photography, and other related work.

The Creative Strategist will develop fun, engaging, and innovative ideas and concepts that align with Office of Communications and agency goals and will collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop creative messaging and strategies to advance agency goals across communications channels;
• Develop and help execute the agency’s creative strategy and content development for social media;
• Develop creative and compelling copy and other work product to use on social media, in marketing materials, to script and support multimedia projects, and across other communications
channels as directed by the Chief Communications Officer;
• Provide strategic guidance and support on synergizing messaging and aligning goals across communications channels, including social media, marketing, press, and multimedia platforms;
• Serve as an advisor to the Chief Communications Officer on the creative direction of the Office of Communications; and
• Collaborate with colleagues across the Office of Communications and the broader agency to implement creative strategies.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.

Preferred Skills
• A proven track record in developing and executing creative strategies on social media, advertising, or marketing with outstanding creativity and sense of humor;
• A strategic thinker with a demonstrated knowledge of how to creatively use communications platforms to build engagement and advance goals;
• An ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues in a fast-paced environment;
• 5+ years of experience in creative strategy, social media, advertising, or marketing;

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.
