General Description
The Middleton Youth Center is a free, after school and summer program for youth in grades five through eight. The Youth Center Coordinator is under the direct supervision of the Youth Center Director, and works directly with youth on a daily basis. The Youth Center Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of after school and summer programs for youth in the Middleton Area. Services will promote youth leadership, positive decision-making, school success, asset building, and community/civic engagement among participants. This position provides academic support, plans and leads enrichment activities focused on social-emotional learning, supervises pool days and field trips, and involves students in service-learning opportunities. The mission will be to develop an infrastructure in Middleton that gives youth the chance to build skills, exercise leadership, and form relationships with caring adults.
During the school year, the Youth Center is open from 3:36-6pm on all school days. The Youth Center Coordinator will be on-site from 3:15-6:30pm on 2-3 school days per week. The Youth Center’s summer program runs for eight weeks, with staff on-site from 11:30am-6pm Monday-Thursday. The Youth Center Coordinator will also participate in program planning and professional development time. This position will also assist with several special events throughout the year.
ENVIRONMENT/WORK CONDITIONS:
Indoor, office work environment with artificial light, office machine sounds and noises. Indoor and outdoor school environment.

Job Functions
Essential Functions
- Provide safe, supervised, and constructive after school and summer activities
- Create an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all identities
- Plan and facilitate a variety of sport, recreational, community service, leadership, academic support, and cultural programming
- Assess the program requirements of youth and identify and plan new programs as needed
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs
- Provide the necessary supplies and equipment to carry out programming and monitor the usage
- Outreach to, schedule, and coordinate guest activity leaders
- Actively and positively engage with youth participants
- Ensure that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant policies and procedures
- Supervise and lead activities; Ensure adult supervision at off-site locations
- Recruit, train and oversee volunteers
- Schedule activities, facilities, and volunteers as required
- Assist with field trips, pool days, and special events
- (optional) Serve as a mentor:
- Provide weekly one-on-one mentoring for a set group of students during the school day
- Plan mentor sessions with a focus on academic support, social-emotional learning, and leadership development
- Log mentor sessions and debrief mentoring sessions regularly with supervisor
- Communicate with mentee’s parents/guardians and school staff as needed
- Attend staff debriefs and planning meetings
- Attend 1:1 meetings with the Youth Center Director as requested
- Attend trainings, professional development and job-related meetings as requested

Supervisory Duties
This position has no regular supervisory duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This role requires:

Education, Training and Experience
Education
- Minimum requirement of High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate or Undergraduate degree in education, recreation or a related field preferred
Training
- CPR/1st Aid Certification within 3 months of being hired
- Complete Youth Center orientation within 1 month of being hired
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth preferred
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
