Description/Duties & Responsibilities
Are you a 16-18-year old high school student who needs work experience and job training?
The Youth Employment Services (YES) Program is a job training program for low-income or high-risk youth ages 16 to 18 years old. Teens who participate in the program gain valuable work experience, develop job skills, and build their self-esteem and confidence.
Pay Rate: $16.22/hour
This position may work up to 15 hours per week from November 13, 2023 to February 2, 2024 at various locations in Santa Clarita.
Eligibility Criteria for YES Program:
• Must be 16 to 18 years old and still in high school
• Must reside within the City of Santa Clarita
• Applicants must meet one of the below criteria to be eligible for the YES Program:
o Low Income
o High-Risk:
• If you have already participated and completed the YES program, you are not eligible to reapply
Knowledge and Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
• Ability to observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
• Strong team player that is able to work both independently and as part of a work group; trustworthy and responsible
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather
• Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment (up to 25 lbs.) is required occasionally

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
