Description

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent and/or Administrative Manager, the purpose of the position is to provide development, implementation, and supervision for all aspects of School’s Out, Pre-School, and After School Programs. Employees in this classification will also perform the duties of Kids Corner Coordinator during the school year and Summer Camp Site Coordinator during Summer Camp programs. Employees in this classification may also perform duties related to the development, implementation and supervision of our youth sports programs. Performs related work as directed.

Examples of Duties

  • Plans and develops age-appropriate activities for children School’s Out Programs such as Teacher Work Day Programs, and Spring, Summer, and Winter Camps and one-day special activities for children and teens (Lunch with Spring Bunny, Breakfast with Santa, etc., Lauderhill Teen Club, Teen day, etc).
  • Plans and develops all aspects of the youth sports programs.
  • Assists in providing volunteer coach training and management.
  • Ensures proper registration procedures are followed.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors the work of subordinates.
  • Schedules field trips and site activities.
  • Maintains accurate records pertaining to registration, attendance, inventory, and program evaluations.
  • Maintains accurate records related to grant funding.
  • Implements programs for which grant funding have been received and ensures that guidelines set forth in grant document are followed.
  • Markets and promotes recreation activities to the community.
  • Secures equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Participates in and supervises recreational activities and programs.
  • Interacts with parents concerning disciplinary and other issues.
  • Enforces City and Department rules and regulations.
  • Ensures the safety and proper supervision of the children in the program.
  • Supervises cleaning and preparation of recreational areas.

Minimum Training and Experience

Associate of Arts degree or closely related field preferred supplemented by at least six (6) months of previous experience and/or training involving children’s activities and/or youth sports programming; or High School Diploma or GED certificate supplemented by at least two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving children’s activities and/or youth sports programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Special Requirements
Experience working with grants and youth programs, preferred.
