Job Description
Position: Soccer- Sport Official
Dates: Seasonal employment from August through October and March through Mid-May
Saturdays varying shifts 8:00am-3:30pm
Salary: $16.00/hour
Location: Benedict Park/Brighton Park’
Nature of Work
The Sports Department provides Youth Sport Officials to manage and/or officiate soccer games on Saturdays for the Peewee and Youth Soccer League. Youth Sport Official greets coaches, start and end games on time, properly check for safety equipment, record information throughout games, manage games, and help teach youth participants while officiating. Various training days prior to the start of each sport are also required to attend.
Essential Duties
- Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure basic rules of soccer are implemented.
- Listens to concerns, answers questions and addresses coaches, players and parents in a calm, fair and professional manner.
- Immediately reports problems, inappropriate situations or behaviors to Site Supervisor.
- Receives and carries out instructions.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift and notifies Sport Coordinator of schedule substitutions prior to the change.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The Youth Sport Official is accountable for attending referee trainings where techniques and specific rules are taught for soccer. The Youth Sport Official also assures that the site is kept neat and clean throughout the day, maintains supplies/equipment and attends staff meetings.
Required Education, Experience and Formal Training
The candidate must be at least 15 years of age. Candidate must also pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and understanding of basic rules for youth soccer. Experience working with children ages 4 years to 12 years old.
Physical Requirements
The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while assisting children and adults for extended periods of time. The candidate must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances.
