Job Summary
The City of Bellevue is seeking a Youth Sports Day Camp Head Counselor to help with our Youth Sports Summer Day Camps for the Parks and Community Services team. Youth Sports offers multiple week-long camps where children develop new skills and interests as well as have fun making new friends.

The position, under the direction of staff, will assist with programs and aid in the facilitation and organization of weekly summer camps at the Tyee Middle School Campus. They will be required to design day camp agendas, develop activities to keep kids enthused and engaged, instruct participants, schedule field trips, and collaborate with other staff. They must be experienced working with diverse populations and have experience working with and leading sports and recreation programs. Experience working with elementary and middle school aged youth is very important.

The Youth Sports Day Camp Head Counselor will work up to 40 hours per week during the summer. This position will start in early June (flexible schedule) to prepare for the summer and then be required to work Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm once camp weeks begin. Summer Camp dates are July 5-7, July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24- 28, July 31- August 4, and August 7-11. The Director will need to attend approximately two (2) days of training the week of June 26th with hired summer camp counselors. This will include First Aid/CPR training. Main summer camp location will be Tyee Middle School, 13630 SE Allen Rd, Bellevue, WA 98006. If interested to continue beyond the summer, work hours through the school year range from 2-15 hours per week (afternoons, evenings, Saturdays) and location of position will vary based on program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging summer camp daily and weekly agendas based on camp descriptions and equipment available. This may include research games, activities, icebreakers, field trip ideas, etc.
  • Lead daily activities of Youth Sports Summer Day Camps, including preparation, expectations, check-in, team-building, and indoor/outdoor sports and games.
  • Administrative duties including communication with customers, reports, and staff scheduling.
  • Inventory, maintain, and store equipment properly to ensure safety of participants and property.
  • Continuously build and adapt programs and activities to provide a positive experience for all and encourage further participation in Youth Sports programs moving forward.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of specific sports fundamentals and games (soccer, flag football, basketball, baseball, tag, capture the flag, etc.).
  • Experience working with youth and teenage participants.

This is a Variable, non-exempt, non-union position.
Definition of a Variable Employee:

  • Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire.
  • Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.
  • NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
