The Zoning and Landscape Inspector inspects land development, building construction, and landscape installation and modification for conformity with effective land development regulations, and with approved development plans.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Performs inspections related to the City’s Unified Land Development Regulations (ULDR) and conditions placed on the plans at time of approval by the Development Review Committee (DRC), Planning and Zoning Board and/or City Commission
- Reviews building permit plans for conformance with zoning and landscape codes and ordinances
- Performs retroactive inspections of signs and landscaping and responds to complaints regarding sign compliance
- Informs property owners or developers of any development project and site plan deficiencies and gives instructions for compliance
- Arranges for developers and architects to meet with Building and Zoning representatives to discuss non-conformance with approved plans
- Issues citations to violators who fail to correct deficiencies within the prescribed period of time
- Disseminates information regarding zoning and landscape code requirements
- Documents inspection results and tracks complaints
- Prepares reports and maintains records
- Performs research on properties
- Assists in the gathering, assembly and preparation of technical data for planning analysis
- Performs related work as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school or vocational school or possess a G.E.D. certificate
- Three (3) years of experience in land development, code enforcement or a related field and possess a general knowledge of land development regulations, including landscaping, and associated terminology. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis of the required experience
- Possess a Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, or be able to obtain one by date of hire.
Preference:
F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Level 1 Certification
Special Requirements:
Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work in some capacity after the declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran’s preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale’s veteran’s preference claim form (J-204).
